Match the top card by suit or number, play an eight to name a new suit, and be first to empty your hand. Eight café regulars take turns across the table, from Gus, who plays whatever's on top, to Flo, who owns the place and remembers every card. One open hand a day, the same for everyone, if you'd like a puzzle with your coffee.

How to play

  1. Play a card that matches the top card's suit or number. Eights are wild: play one any time and name the next suit.
  2. Tap or click a card to play it, or drag it onto the pile. Tap the deck or Draw to take one card; if it fits, play it or Keep it. Sort tidies your hand.
  3. Keys work too: the arrows pick a card, Enter plays it, Space draws or keeps, X sorts and Esc pauses.
  4. Go out first to score every card left in the other hands: eights 50, faces 10, aces 1, the rest their number. First to 100 wins the match, or 150 and 200 at bigger tables.

Every way to play is equal here: touch, mouse and keyboard all move at the same top speed. A score means the same on any device.

Tips

  • Hold your eights. They play on anything, so save them for when nothing else fits, or for going out.
  • When you play an eight, call the suit the next player just drew on: they're likely out of it.
  • Someone down to one card? Change the suit and play your face cards before they're counted against you.
  • Drawing on purpose is allowed. Taking a card can be better than spending your only eight.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. It's free to play in your browser, with no download and no sign-up needed. Coins you earn are for fun and can never be bought.

What do eights do?

An eight plays on any card. Play one and name the suit the next player has to follow.

Do I have to draw until I can play?

No. You take one card. If it fits you can play it or keep it; if not, your turn ends. You can also draw when you could play.

How does scoring work?

The first player out scores the cards left in the other hands: eights 50, kings, queens and jacks 10, aces 1, the rest face value. First to 100 wins the match (150 at a table of three, 200 at four).

Is there a daily game?

Yes. The Daily Hand is one open hand a day, the same for everyone, with a par for the fewest turns to go out.

Can I play on a phone?

Yes. It's built for touch first and plays the same on a phone, a tablet or a computer.
